Racing
In a race, a Wryval flies through an obstacle course, trying to finish it in the fastest time possible.
There are three types of obstacles in a cave race:
- Stalagmite – These are rock protrusions rising up from the cave floor. A Wryval must fly over top of this obstacle.
- Stalactite – These are rock protrusions that hang down from the cave ceiling. A Wryval must fly under this obstacle.
- Spider Web – A spider web occurs when a stalactite and stalagmite grow at the same spot of a cave, allowing a spider to bridge the gap between the two with its web. A Wryval must clear the web with their fire and then fly between the stalagmite and stalactite.
If a Wryval hits any obstacle during the race, their forward motion is stopped while they recover from the hit. This results in slower race times for the Wryval.
The accelerometer of the device on which you are playing controls how the Wryval navigates through the course.
- Speed – A Wryval’s Speed will determine the top speed at which a Wryval can fly through the course. In landscape mode, tilt your device to the right to make your Wryval speed up. Tilt your device to the left to make your Wryval slow down. The steeper that you tilt your device, the faster or slower the Wryval will go. Maximum speed is achieved at an angle of 45 degrees. Tilting your device steeper than this will not make your Wryval go faster.
- Agility – A Wryval’s Agility will determine how fast a Wryval can fly up and down in the race to navigate around obstacles. In landscape mode, flick your device up to have your Wryval fly higher up in the cave. Flick your device down to have your Wryval fly lower down in the cave.
A good racing Wryval requires both high speed and agility. If a Wryval has high speed but low agility, they won’t be able to use their top speed as they will have to slow down to navigate around obstacles. If a Wryval has high agility but low speed then they won’t be able to finish the race with a good time.
